Want to be part of the chat and hold a panel?
Discussions will be centred around the digital Britain five objectives:
- Upgrading and modernising our digital networks – wired, wireless and broadcast – so that Britain has an infrastructure that enables it to remain globally competitive in the digital world;
- A dynamic investment climate for UK digital content, applications and services, that makes the UK an attractive place for both domestic and inward investment in our digital economy;
- UK content for UK users: content of quality and scale that serves the interests, experiences and needs of all UK citizens; in particular impartial news, comment and analysis;
- Fairness and access for all: universal availability coupled with the skills and digital literacy to enable near-universal participation in the digital economy and digital society; and
- Developing the infrastructure, skills and take-up to enable the widespread online delivery of public services and business interface with Government.

Discussions will be pulled out of a hat on the day for optimum randomisation. You may or may not get chosen to hold a panel.
Digital Britain Unconference West Midlands 
Just to give us a sense of momentum could this blog be updated with an attendee list? Would help enthuse those of us who have put their name down already.
I know for a fact I’m particularly uncool about all things ‘un’ or ‘bar’ but the thought of ‘being pulled from a hat’ makes me reluctant to suggest leading a panel of any kind. But that may be that I don’t really ‘get’ the concept of unconferences.
Having said that I’d welcome some of the time on the 12th to be less about just discussing the DB report (consultation has closed I think? Final report due out in about 5 weeks?) and consider how we support Birmingham’s emerging digital media economy and where the push for growth for this sector will come from. Some of my thoughts are outlined in a document I wrote on the back on the Lucid project:

We’re in a weird position of wanting to have some structure but trying to be slightly unconferency. Technically the minute we start scheduling it people will say it’s not an unconference.
it may be you’ve just volunteered to open the chat? would that be OK with you?

Preparation: it would help if people could read the report from the Oxford unconference beforehand. They may want to develop some of those themes or introduce new ones. I can report back on the first meeting.http://digitalbritainunconference.wordpress.com/

There is some danger of fragmentation into numerous wikis and blogs. If people would link to the digitalbritainunconference.wordpress.com and writetoreply.org sites it would provide a point of contact for people joining the discussion.
Outcomes
We need to develop a coherent response by 15th for feedback to DB from all the unconferences.
Then, recognising that the final DB report is not going to match aspirations of users or producers in the digital media sector, start thinking about
1.what kind of ongoing campaign will be needed to influence policy in UK and EU
2.what we can do ourselves to implement a social and economic vision for the Web.
I would be happy to deliver an ‘un-non-paper’ and chair discussion around digital education/literacy (e.g. on the distinctions between training and education and expectations around this area; digital divides and access et al).
This would be anchored to our experience at BCU of launching an MA in Social Media and the curious responses it drew from the traditional press and indeed online discussion sites.
Any live feeds? Live chats? Too big a carbon footprint to attend but could come along via the ether…
